Rose Hill was once a small farming community in northeast Travis County near present-day Manor. Founded by German immigrants, Rose Hill consisted of dozens of family homes, a schoolhouse, church, and cemetery. Over time, residents moved away, the buildings deteriorated and the cemetery and land became overgrown.
In 2007 a group of Rose Hill descendants, many of whom had never met one another, came together to form the Rose Hill Cemetery Association in order to protect, preserve, and manage the cemetery and surrounding property. Rose Hill has now been designated a historic landmark with an official marker from the State of Texas which was unveiled at the association’s Dedication Day. The gravestones have been repaired and Rose Hill is becoming a beautiful place to remember those who came before us.
